Andrea Sirois is a graduate student pursuing her MPA degree with an expected graduation date this upcoming May. Andrea was a part of the Accelerated Master’s Program and received her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona in political science, a minor in environmental studies, while working full-time as Store Manager. Andrea is currently a Graduate Teacher’s Assistant for the Africana Studies in an online class with over 1,200 students and supervises 20 graduate graders. Andrea’s interest lies in local government after being a Management Intern for the Town of Oro Valley in the Town Manager’s Office. She shadowed multiple departments such as Economic Development, Town Clerk’s Office, and Water Department during her time in Oro Valley. She also obtained a Human Resource Supervisory Training Certification with the Town of Oro Valley. Andrea’s former supervisor, Chris Cornelison (Assistant Town Manager), inspired her to establish the UA ICMA Chapter with a fellow classmate (Brianna Zurita). The Student Chapter composed of 2 boards (ICMA Alumni Committee and ICMA Student Board) has been successful with their fundraising efforts, dispersing student scholarships to the Annual ICMA Conference in Texas, building a strategic plan, offering professional development events as well as working towards larger initiatives like a Spring Conference and a High School Mentorship Program. Andrea recently accepted an internship opportunity with the Governor’s Budget Office and begins the internship this Winter. Andrea plans to stay within Arizona after graduation.
